An important distinction between Classical Flying Stars Feng Shui (Xuan Kong) and the more Intuitive versions (BTB or Nine Aspirations) is the influence of Time on Space. Flying Stars begins with calculations of energies originating from a particular twenty-year period of time. Get this wrong and an important part of the analysis is basically useless.
Even among Classically trained Feng Shui experts there are differing opinions as to what period of time to use in generating a chart. Here is a summary of several different viewpoints…
The Build Date Generates a Chart…
In the U.S., Master Larry Sang and Master Eva Wong put forth this theory in their books. Their reasoning is that a building’s birth date occurs when the ground is covered, a structure is “under roof”, and someone moves in. Using Cosmic Trinity theory this makes perfect sense. Man connects Heaven to Earth. However, what happens when the first occupants move out and new occupants move in?
The Subsequent Occupants Mandate a New Chart…
Master Joey Yap and Master Lillian Too (students of Grand Master Yap Cheng Hai) have written that a new chart might apply for new occupants moving in a house in a different time period from the original build date. This chart would be based on their date of occupancy, not the original construction date. One Master adds that the house should remain vacant for at least 100 days between subsequent occupants for a Period to change.
The Change in Period Generates a New Chart…
Master Too writes that a shift can occur when a new Period begins. The last twenty year change was in 2004, going from Period 7 to Period 8. Some energies changed potency. The formerly strong 7/Metal has taken on more of its negative characteristics of metal injuries, burglary, or violence in Period 8. 8/Earth is even more beneficial in this period than is typical relating to health, relationships, and abundance. This pattern remains until 9/Fire becomes more predominant in February of 2024. Too notes in her books that renovation is needed to justify this shift to a new period… new roof, flooring, major addition, in other words enough change for the building to capture the new energy.
Another Take On It…
I have followed my clients before, during, and after the change in periods from 7 to 8. My studies indicate that Period 7 energy is still in effect for many houses built during that time, in spite of substantial improvements.
